  • If the cement is new.  Allow the concrete to cure completely.  If the concrete is new.  There is at least a 28 day waiting period.

  • Apply the new sealer with a sprayer or roller, ideally two thin coats with proper drying time in between, and allow it to cure before use.

2. Prepare the surface

  • Clean thoroughly: Sweep away all dirt and debris. Deep clean the surface to remove any grease, oil, or paint.

  • Repair cracks: Fill any deep cracks with a crack filler and ensure the surface is completely dry.

  • Protect surroundings: Use painter's tape or remove baseboards to protect them from the sealer.

3.   Remove existing sealer (if necessary)

  • Use a chemical stripper or sandblasting to strip off any old, existing sealer.

  • Scrape off any sludge and dispose of it properly.

4.  Apply the sealer

  • Apply the first coat: Use a roller or sprayer to apply a thin, even coat. Avoid applying a thick layer, which can cause bubbles.

  • Wait for the first coat to dry: Allow the first coat to dry completely. The time varies by product, but is typically 2-4 hours.

  • Apply the second coat: Apply the second coat in a direction perpendicular to the first coat for full coverage.

  • Allow to cure: Keep foot traffic off for at least 24 hours and heavy items off for up to 72 hours, or as recommended by the manufacturer.

5. Cure and maintain

  • Allow to cure: Keep foot traffic off the surface for at least 24 hours and vehicle traffic for at least 7 days, depending on the product.

  • Reapply as needed: Reapply the sealer every few years, depending on the type of sealer and the amount of wear it receives.
